The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season has been a rough ride for Trackhouse racing. They have failed to match the impressive performance of the past two seasons and have secured just one win with just five races left in the regular season. While Daniel Suarez has secured a playoff spot, his teammate Ross Chastain is currently sitting P16 in the points table without a win.

Ross Chastain, who was the championship runners-up in 2022, has had a slow car throughout the season. His races often ended with top-20 finishes, but the last few races have seen him dropping points. Ex-NASCAR Cup champion Kevin Harvick has come forward discussing this tough situation the No:1 Chevy team is in.

He pointed out that Chastain’s crew hasn’t been able to give him a car capable of winning races. Harvick reminded the Florida-born racer that he can’t afford to have poor finishing weekends with the car he has as they have failed to make the car produce enough speed for them to win races.

When you don’t have the speed you can’t have those bad finishes to go along with a lack of speed. I just think they’re in that position right now where they don’t have the speed that they need to win races.

Kevin Harvick highlights how tough is Ross Chastain’s position on the points table

Ross Chastain is currently sitting in the most vulnerable spot on the point table. With races like the ones at Daytona left, if one more driver wins a race, he is out of the playoffs picture. Even if they didn’t, he had to overcome the challenge from Bubba Wallace, who sitting just 27 points off at P17. Harvick, who has been in the same situation in the past, admitted that it’s a tough place to be.

That’s a tough one to balance because you got to go for the win but you could cost yourself a ton of points by taking too many risks. But Ross almost won the Daytona 500 and I think that they have to go there and try to win.

Chastain and crew still have time to figure out what went wrong for them and how to solve it. They need to at least be consistent to challenge for a spot in the playoffs. It would be interesting to see how the season would turn out for the veteran driver.
