The NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Motor Speedway witnessed some wild moments. Bubba Wallace getting used up by his car owner Denny Hamlin on the last lap just give Chase Elliott the opportunity to win the race was the wildest incident of the day. Ex-Cup champion Kevin Harvick has mixed feelings about the incident.

The 2014 Cup champion perfectly understand the position Denny Hamlin found himself in while fighting his own driver for win, as he has been in the same position in the past as the owner KHI. On the Happy Hour podcast, Kevin Harvick pointed out that he was in a position where regardless of whatever he does he was going anger one of his partners.

I’ve been in a position where Denny Hamlin is in currently where you drive for another team and you own cars. And it’s really, really difficult because if he doesn’t drive in there and try to win the race and do what he did, his team is gonna be mad.

Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.

He made the better choice of the two, race for himself and but with the aggressive move instead of attempting a pass through the bottom, he broke the rule by not winning the race. They handed the victory to 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott when they had the full control of the race with just half a lap left.

When it worked out the way that it did, the only rule he broke is one of you better win…One of you better win and it took both teams out of contention, and they handed a gimme to Chase Elliott. They had everything under control.

Kevin Harvick added.

It’s an unwritten rule in NASCAR that if you are wrecking your teammate, they you better convert it to win instead of ruining the night for both. Wallace and Hamlin, though are employer and employee, at the moment is like teammates. Hence this rule was applicable to the No:11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

That’s kind of the unwritten rule — if you’re going to bang doors with your teammate and you’re going to do all those things, you better make sure one of you wins the race. I know they’re not technically teammates, but they might as well be with the way this all goes.

Kevin Harvick asserted.

Denny Hamlin refuses apologize to Bubba Wallace

On his podcast, Actions Detrimental Denny Hamlin passionately talked about the incident and defended himself. Though he understands he could have made the better choice at the moment in hindsight he isn’t ready to apologize for going for the win. On Sunday his primary focus is the No:11 JGR team and everything else comes second.

Because I’m racing for the win, and I definitely won’t apologize for racing for the win… On Sunday, I am the driver. The person in the 11 car is the driver. That’s where the disconnect I think comes from is that people expect me to be a different person, they expect me to be the guy with a 23XI shirt on when I’m in the 11 car, and that’s just not possible.

Denny Hamlin said.

The comments from the three times Daytona 500 driver shows how big competitors he is and loyal he is to Joe Gibbs, despite conflict of interest with his team. It would be interesting to see how the incident is going redefine the dynamic between the racers and within the team for the upcoming races of the season.
