Ex-NASCAR Cup champion Kevin Harvick has a proposal to fix the issues with the playoff format and make it more interesting.

The 2024 NASCAR Cup season has seen one of the most dramatic championship wins, with Joey Logano racking in his third title upsetting defending Cup winner Ryan Blaney. There is a huge group in the racing community who are making comments aimed at discrediting the No:22 teams win, criticizing the playoff format.
The Chase format being something that rewards one of wins than consistency has been a huge point of discussion and amidst the criticism ex-champion Kevin Harvick has proposed a way to fix it. He doesn’t see replacing the system as the right choice, instead he wants to make changes to it, with the goal of rewarding drivers that does well in the regular season.
He pointed out that giving more points or a fixed seat in the Round of 8, for the regular season performance will make it more meaningful. It’s a suggestion that NASCAR can discuss up on and potentially employ in the future.

While further talking on the playoff criticism, Harvick compared the playoff format to other sports. He pointed out the NASCAR system is more similar to football, while other sports give teams more opportunities to make mistakes and rectify them. So, he wants NASCAR find that solution which will give more weight to regular season.
The proposal from Kevin Harvick is something NASCAR has taken into account and implement. It has the potential to make it better and more entertaining. It will be interesting to if NASCAR will look into the proposal and make it happen.
