Joey Logano's championship-winning burnouts were not able to persuade Kevin Harvick from Shane van Gisbergen's burnouts in Sonoma.

As the 2024 NASCAR season has ended, ex-Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick took on his unofficial NASCAR season awards. While he reckoned Joey Logano to be the driver of the year, he was not quite impressed with the triple champion’s burnout skills, as his heart was all for Shane van Gisbergen‘s burnouts in the drama-filled Sonoma Xfinity race.

Joey Logano won his third Cup Series championship in Phoenix and gave the audience a smoke show with his celebratory burnouts. Though it was not the first time he did burnout during the 2024 season, it carried an immense meaning for the Penske driver to memorialize his third championship victory.

On the other hand, Shane van Gisbergen had a flashpoint with Austin Hill at Sonoma earlier this year. While the former was able to come out on the top, his burnouts were interrupted by the No.21 Chevy driver.

This escalated the whole saga beyond the two drivers and gave an interesting kick to the burnouts. This intrigued Kevin Harvick, who labeled the Kiwi’s burnouts as the best of the 2024 season.

The way that whole thing unfolded, and you had to go back and look at the bird hanging out the window and the burnout right next to the car. He followed [Hill] all the way back to pit road and just kind of hounded him all the way back to pit road. Once he went on to pit lane, went to the front straightaway and did his burnout, that was one of the more unique moments of the burnouts that I’ve ever seen.

However, SVG could not win the Xfinity Series championship later in the year. Despite this, he has earned a promotion to the Cup Series as a full-time driver. He would be racing with Trackhouse Racing as the team aims to expand to three charters for the subsequent season.

Kevin Harvick reasoned why Kyle Larson’s win ratio was unable to win him the championship

While Logano won the 2024 Cup Series championship, some fans bemoaned about how Kyle Larson‘s six wins and dominance throughout the season were unable to get him the championship. On the other hand, this did not budge the 48-year-old from asserting that Logano was the best driver on the field throughout the year.

Subsequently, Harvick elaborated on how winning races alone does not do the job of winning the championships.

We believe he [Larson] is the best driver in the world, right? But there’s just more layers to winning championships than just being the best driver.

This goes in line with how the HM driver was discontent with losing the Regular season championship due to the thinnest of margins. Thus, he would be hoping to redeem himself next year and take on the field without having any major mishaps during the playoffs, when each race can change the shape of the standings entirely.
