The NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday at Michigan witnessed Carson Hocevar being involved some wild moments, and messing up his shot at winning his second race of the season. His No:77 Chevy had the pace to match Denny Hamlin’s No:11 Toyota Camry, but poor decision making ended up costing him.

He caused the big wreck on the day last Sunday, that collected multiple cars, forcing the likes Tyler Reddick and Austin Dillon to DNF. Hall of Famer Kevin Hravick talked about the drama as well as the criticism coming the way of the Spire Motorsports driver on his podcast. The Chevy driver has grown enough to balance his aggression enough to make sure his car isn’t damaged, while putting rivals in tough spots.

I think that my advice to Carson Hocevar from the beginning of the year to now would be much different. I think that he’s learned enough about how to manage the situations and not tear up his own car. He’s going to continue to put people in a bad spot

Kevin Harvick said on his Fox Sports podcast.

The aggression has become important to perform on an elite level in the Next-Gen era, with the competition being closer than ever according to Kevin Harvick. Hence the veteran advised the Carson Hocevar to not change his attitude and to trust in his own ability to deliver solid results for the upcoming races.

…But I think that’s how you’ve got to race the Gen 7 car…I would tell him to keep doing what he’s doing because that’s what makes him good. He’s got this ability.

Kevin Harvick added via Happy Hour podcast.

Further talking about the same podcast, the 2014 Cup champion highlighted how Hocevar himself needs to take initiates to fix his mistakes. He would have to teach himself on how to avoid getting involved in the questionable situations as he often does. The racer believes the star driver is capable to do exactly that.

He’s going to teach himself all those things, and I think that when he goes back and looks at this video he’s going to realize, ‘I could have prevented that just with a couple feet to the left and hitting him square,’ That’s really what caused the wreck. He probably could have hit him with the same speed…But I think what makes him great is what he is. He’s going to teach himself those things.

Kevin Harvick said.

That’s the reason why, unlike many in the garage, the ex-SHR driver is not bothered by the attitude and character of the racer. He understands that sometimes young aggressive drivers can’t be taught how to fix their short comings, instead they have to learn it by themselves by making more mistakes and experiments on the track.

I would encourage him to keep going because mentally it doesn’t bother him… You can’t take a guy that drives like that and try to make him somebody different. They have to learn on their own in trying to put themselves in the right spot and manage those little situations, but you’ve got to turn them loose or they’re going to be somebody who they’re not, and it won’t be good.

Kevin Harvick added.

The veteran got the right attitude towards the Hocevar controversy, as an unnatural change to the racing style of the youngster owing to outside pressure would not only ruin his momentum on track, but off the track as well. NASCAR has a potential superstar in their hands and they need to let him evolve by himself.
