For teammates Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon, the Cook Out 400, hosted by Richmond Raceway, was a tale of two extremes. The No:3 Chevy driver produced a clinical and dominance performance to secure back-to-back win at venue, securing playoff spot and redeeming himself from the controversial finish to the race last year.
Richard Childress Racing veteran Kyle Busch on the other hand had another nightmare finish, owning to a multi-car wreck on lap 198 of the race. He made contact with Chase Elliott and Chase Briscoe, causing a chain reaction that collected multiple drivers. The incident happened because the No:8 Chevy driver turned left without knowing the No:9 Chevy was beside him.

I have no idea what happened still. Obviously, I saw them crashing and we were all just stacking up trying to get stopped and then after the wreck was over, I thought we were done wrecking and was just trying to squeak by. Guess somebody didn’t know I was down there. Kyle just didn’t know I was to the left.
Chase Elliott told NBC Sports as part of the incident.
The veteran was furious after the incident and went on a radio rant. This was due to the fact that incident destroyed the nose of his car and cost him the opportunity of the race victory, as he had the same pace as his teammate Austin Dillon went onto to win the race. Getting wronged by rivals, his or his crew mistakes seems to be taking the toll on the veteran racer.
It’s f***ing killed. The nose is killed.

Kyle Busch shared his playoff hopes ahead of Richmond
Coming into the Richmond race, making into the last 16 on points was not on the table for the two times Cup Series champion and was one of the many drivers that is in a must-win situation. He now has lost one opportunity and now only has the Daytona race left to secure the victory he is desperate for.

The No:8 team hasn’t been on the victory lane since the first half of the 2023 season, when they won three races. But since then, the cars RCR fielded for them were underwhelming and the mistakes committed by everyone at the team including himself didn’t help. So, ahead of the Cook Out 400, the veteran had discussed his chances to make it into the last-16.
Kyle Busch insisted that he isn’t stressed about the situation and pointed out that they come to every race week with the mindset that they are capable of winning the race. But unfortunately, they haven’t been able to produce races that matches their ambitions. His wanted to change that this week, but failed to do so.
I’m not stressed out over it. I think we go to each and every single weekend with the mindset of trying to go out there and win. We haven’t put ourselves in that position to score a victory, so we need to, but I wouldn’t say this weekend puts any added pressure on.
Kyle Busch said.
The comments from the veteran racer seems to be a bit farfetched, as despite his credentilas it is clear that the No:8 team is under massive pressure. They have to work on their cars more and help the veteran end his winless run at Daytona. Even if they fail, they shouldn’t give up and should do everything possible to get at least a win in 2025, as failure to do so will hurt them in the long run.
