Two times Cup Series champion Kyle Busch made one of the most unexpected team switches of any racers in the 21 centuries when he signed with Richard Childress Racing after over 15 years with Joe Gibbs Racing. He started his year strong with the No:8 team in 2023 winning three races, but his sophomore year was a massive disappointment as he missed out playoff owing to a winless run.

The team failed to give him cars fast enough to secure race wins and this even made Kyle Busch look into moving to another team. Recently talking to Bob Pockrass, Busch detailed the condition he has to remain with the team. He wants them to win races, unlike 2024, and build a crew that is consistently fighting for top 5 finishes.

I would say you gotta win, right? Unfortunately, we weren’t able to win last year. So, being able to get back to Victory Lane, being able to build on some consistency. Getting those top-fives, top-tens, getting that number higher than what it was [last] year is definitely, paramount.

Kyle Busch told Bob Pockrass.

He later pointed out that the 2024 summer with the No:8 team was really disappointing for him and enduring DNFs along side poor stretch of results was tough. So, he wants his team to get back to the race winning form and remain at the top.

Had a rough summer last year, had a lot of DNFs in that stretch that kind of brought us outside the playoff rank and being able to get ourselves in contention. So, definitely want to have a lot better sense of all of that, earlier in the year would be better, but it’s always a long year and you’ve got to fight it out every week.

Austin Dillon hopes Kyle Busch remains with RCR till end of his career

Though Kyle Busch is sending mixed signals, his teammate Austin Dillon, grandson of team owner Richard Childress, pointed out that he expects the veteran to stay with their team till the end of his career. He pointed out that RCR is trying everything give its drivers the best cars to succeed.

For us at RCR, we just have to put maximum effort in every week to deliver the best product, and that’s the best we can do. Try and give maximum effort every weekend, put him in the best position we can, and we’ll see where all the chips fall at the end. But I think he’s enjoyed his time at RCR and wants to be at this organization to the end, I hope.

Austin Dillon said.

The comments from Austin Dillon proves RCR knows there is risk of them losing their most valuable racer and is doing everything they possible can to make sure he can stay with them. It would be interesting to see how Kyle Busch’s future with RCR is going to playout.
