NASCAR and racing are often a family affair, as it’s very normal to see most racer’s children trying to become motorsports athletes. The Earnhardt’s, Petty’s and Wallace’s made the sport what is right now with multi-generational contribution. Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick are trying to do the same with their sons.

But Hendrick Motorsports’ reigning champion Kyle Larson, who is considered the biggest talent in the sport right now, though doesn’t have the same goals. On his recent appearance on The RACER 6th Annual Race Industry Week webinar., the Chevy driver shared his thoughts on being a racing dad, with his Owen Larson making selected appearances in the junior divisions.

He revealed that he isn’t hands on with the racing ventures his son as the like of Kyle Busch is with son Brexton and Kevin Harvick with son Keelan.  They are more invested that Larson has ever been with his son. He did admit that compared his son, the other two are more Intesa regarding racing like their Cup championship winning dads.

I don’t know. I mean, I would say I’m not as hands-on as who I guess I could compare myself to, like a Kyle Busch or Kevin Harvick or somebody like that. You know, they’re pretty hands-on and probably more intense with it than I would be. But I also think their kids are a little bit more intense with it too.

Further talking about the point, he explained that he enjoys the experience when he is there less hands on to cheer and support his son. The real reason he is giving his son to grow himself and learn racing, like he did when he grew up, as it will give him the proud dad moments.

But, um, I don’t know. It’s fun to go there and see them enjoy it, have a good time, you know, hopefully do a good job. For me, you know, seeing them work hard at trying to get better is what makes me proud.

So, um, they’re in the room behind me right now. They just homeschool behind me. So, I’m trying to keep them motivated, but no, it’s good. And just seeing them build memories that I know they’ll have forever is always cool too.

Homeschooling his kids helps Kyle Larson to bring to them most of his races and help them to cherish their fathers glory days in motorsports, which will also help raise their passion for the sport. It would be interesting see how the new generation of Larsons going to approach racing.
