The 2024 NASCAR season has been a nightmare for Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch. He came into the season hoping for redemption after peaking too early in 2023, but he hasn’t been able to deliver in any races because of sun-par cars fielded for him. His best shot at winning came last Saturday at Daytona, which he blew as well.
On the final restart of the Coke Zero Sugar 400, Kyle Busch found himself as the race leader with the inside lane. But he failed to make usage of having Christopher Bell behind him push him and ended up losing the race to young Harris Burton who took control of the race by defending Busch as hard as he could. Ex-racer Kyle Petty was disappointed with the veteran and had some wild questions.
He doubts that Kyle Busch might have forgotten how to race at Superspeedways. Petty went on to assert that it is unthinkable for Busch to lose the control of the race considering he had the preferred lane, an ex-teammate behind to push him and all he had to do was to take control of the race once he is in the lead.
Has he forgotten how to speedway race? What in God’s name happened? He has control of the race on a green-white-checkered. He has the inside line, [and] he gets there with his friend Christopher Bell who is gonna help him because they were teammates at one point in time. They take the green flag, they take control of the race, they run on the bottom of the racetrack that first lap.Kyle Petty said via NASCAR on YouTube.
Kyle Petty calls out Kyle Busch for not blocking Harrison Burton
As soon as Kyle Busch secured that lead, he should have taken the middle lane and aggressively block Burton, but he didn’t. This has been the way driver s like Joey Logano takes control in superspeedway races. Kyle Petty asserted that Burton did exactly what Busch should have done to win the race.
And as soon as Harrison Burton gets to the front, he pulls it down and he blocks Kyle Busch. Has Kyle Busch never watched Joey Logano or Brad Keselowski take control of a speedway race? Does he not know what video is? Somebody needs to send him a DVR, whatever it is. Send him some old race footage so he understands this.Kyle Petty said.
The ex-racer seems to be pretty upset with Busch not winning the race, which was almost his ticket to playoffs. It’s no time to look back for the No:8 Chevy as they should shift the focus to trying to win the Southern 500 and makes it into the playoff.
