2021 NASCAR Cup champion Kyle Larson is arguably one of the biggest talents in the motorsport’s scene at the moment. Some have even claimed he is a driver on the same level as the reigning F1 champion Max Verstappen. But it hard to end the arguments about these claims as these drivers has never raced each other on the same machinery.

But it seems there is a possibility to bring up a comparison between the two, as McLaren, who will field cars for Kyle Larson in the Indy 500 in 2025, is open about the possibility of giving the stock car champion an F1 test. The McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown in his recent appearance of Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast reveals they have discussed about the same.

Yeah, we’ve been chatting about it. Kyle, as you can imagine, definitely wants to do it in between our schedule, which goes from February to December, and NASCAR’s schedule, which I think is what, February to November. Finding that window. We did that with Jimmie Johnson and Fernando in Bahrain with Hendrick Motorsport. That must have been about four to five years ago, and that was a lot of fun.
Zak Brown told Kevin Harvick.

As McLaren has successfully done one session with Jimmie Johnson in the past, it possible for them to give Larson an F1 car and Brown wants to see it as well. He confirmed that he sees it happing in the near future, with partnership with McLaren and HMS growing.

So, I’d like to see Kyle in an F1 car. It is something that we’ve discussed and something that I do think will happen down the road.
Zak Brown added.

Zak Brown compares Fernando Alonso and Kyle Larson

In the same podcast, Brown highlighted how Kyle Larson is comparable to the two times F1 champion Fernando Alonso. Both very calm, good in compartmentalization and has extreme confidence in themselves making them formidable racers.

He (Alonso) was very calm, nothing seemed to be happening too fast for him and they’re able to compartmentalize, both Kyle and Fernando. They knew where they needed to be on race day but then they took it one day at a time. They were never too hung up on the timesheets. They’ve got extreme amount of confidence in themselves. They study a lot, they ask lots of questions.
Zak Brown said.

The points made by Brown makes a lot of sense as both of these champion drivers are known for their versatility and ability drive any car fast. If McLaren can give Larson a F1 text in the near future fans might be able to see the duo on the same session.
