Action sports legend Travis Pastrana to race in the 2023 Daytona 500 for 23XI Racing
Travis Pastrana drove full-time in the Xfinity Series for RFK Racing in 2013 and secured his highest NASCAR finish of P8 in Richmond.
Travis Pastrana
Multiple times rallycross and Motocross champion Travis Pastrana is reportedly set to race in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series official season opener Daytona 500, for 23XI Racing. He will race the third entry of 23XI alongside Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace. Unlike the full-time drivers to participate in the Great American race on Sunday, he has to top the time charts among the open charter’s qualifiers or the duals.
If the reports from The Athletic are true, Pastrana has a stiff competition going into the open charter race as he will face some big talents. The biggest of them all is 7 times Cup champion Jimmie Johnson who returns and will run in the No:84 Legacy M.C. car he co-owns. The other major open entries announced are Austin Hill and Zane Smith. There are just two sloths open for the non-charted teams.
Pastrana is no stranger to NASCAR, as stock car racing is among the many motorsport events. He has already raced multiple times in the Xfinity and Truck series and had a full-time Xfinity season with RFK Racing in 2013. He has made a total of 42 career Xfinity starts, and 5 Truck series starts. His latest NASCAR outing came in 2020 at the Las Vegas Truck race.
Travis Pastrana is one of the most successful drivers in the motorsport world. He is a 4-time rally cross champion, and his latest Rally Cross championship came in 2017, the American Rally Association championship. Pastrana also won the 2021 Nitro Rallycross, a series he co-owns. He is also the AMA motocross and supercross champion.

23X1 Racing will field three cars in multiple races in 2023
The Michael Jordan-Denny Hamlin-owned team will field three cars in multiple races this season for Kurt Busch. Busch drove full-time for 23×1 in the 2022 season, which also marked his debut. He scored a win in Kansas with the No:45 team. The 2004 Cup champion was side-lined following his crash during the qualifying session in Pocono.
Busch suffered concussion-like symptoms and was forced to sit out for the remainder of the 2022 season. Ty Gibbs was his replacement driver till the season finale. Kurt Busch will run a part-time schedule with 23XI this year in selected races. Tyler Reddick will take over the No:45 car from 2023 and onwards.
Reddick was contracted to join the team in 2024 after his RCR contract ran out, but 23X1 was forced to purchase his contract after the Kurt Busch announcement. If Travis Pastrana races for the TRD team in Daytona, there is a limited chance that Busch’s 2023 season debut will come in that race.
