Rivalry among leading drivers and the clashes that have had on the track to dominance each other on race days has always been one of the biggest attractions for fans in NASCAR. From Richard Petty’s clashes with David Pearson to Dale Earnhardt–Jeff Gordan clashes, the sport has seen some marquee matchups. But nowadays NASCAR is lacking something similar big time.
Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman was recently asked about one such rivalry he would like to materialize on the track. He is in for any clashes that doesn’t involve him and after giving a good though about it, he said a matchup between Denny Hamlin and his HMS teammate Kyle Larson would be pretty entertaining. Larson is close friends with Hamlin, but considering the attitude towards winning both drivers have a clash between them is always possible.

I mean, Denny would have to be one of them, right? Like he really embraces that role really well. He’s in a place in his career where he is able to be super outspoken and not really pay for it like a lot of others would. You know, I think him and his best friend Kyle (Larson). I think that’d be pretty entertaining.Bowman told Heavy.com.
Denny Hamlin, who is right now considered the ultimate villain of NASCAR, have had high-profile run-ins with all of the HMS drivers including Bowman. So, it will not surprising as a rivalry between Kyle Larson and Hamlin would become a reality as envisioned by the No:48 Chevy driver, as the No:5 Chevy had a role to plan in Hamlin becoming a villain.
What is Kyle Larson’s role in Denny Hamlin becoming the villain?
Recently ahead of COTA cup race Hamlin sat down with ex-NASCAR Cup champion Kevin Harvick and discussed his path towards becoming a villain. During which he pointed out that clashing with Kyle Latson at Pocono in 2023 and the reception he got from fans made him embrace the role as a villain as he understood there is no way for him to now get on the good side of those fans.

It really took off after I did or did not get into Kyle Larson at Pocono. I just feel like I’ve reached the point of my career where I’m comfortable in my own skin, and there’s something about it that I feed off of when I get into these incidences that just gets the best out of me on the race track.Hamlin said.
As Alex Bowman pointed out that Hamlin and Larson has the backstory to make it into an entertaining rivalry. If done right this can hugely benefit NASCAR as the more the entertainment the more the fans would come in.
