Hendrick Motorsport’s Alex Bowman is eager to return to the Cup series after the sprint car crash that fractured his vertebra. His car flipped in the air and caused severe injury. Bowman was racing in the Iowa event of his teammate Kyle Larson’s Sprint Car Championship. He appeared at Darlington to see the throwback weekend race and cheer his teammates.
Josh Berry has driven the last three races for the No:48 team as Bowman’s replacement. He had driven five races in the no:9 car before when Chase Elliott was injured. He has done a solid job so far but remains winless. Bowman pointed out that his return is uncertain though he is recovering; this means that Berry might have to extend his stay with the team beyond four scheduled races.
“Every day is a little different. I feel way better than I did two weeks ago…This week, I was able to get back into the gym a little bit, which was really good because not working out for a couple weeks is like the worst thing in the world for me,” Alex Bowman said.
“I don’t have a time for an estimated return. I have a doctor’s appointment this week to get some more x-rays to see how it’s healing and we’ll go from there. I’m obviously mobile. Super fortunate that the injury wasn’t any worse than it was. Obviously, a lot of people have had that flat landing in a sprint car and have been hurt much worse than I was. I’ll heal up and come back when I can,” Bowman added.
While Bowman is recovering well, he is suffering a lot from the injury. He is finding it hard to cough. Laugh or sleep due to the pain. Fortunately, he has no issues when walking or doing other tasks. He is back in the gym and is working hard to get his fitness back.

Alex Bowman missed some of his favorite tracks due to the injury

Bowman has missed some of his favorite tracks during the injury. Dover and Kanas have been his most successful tracks, and missing them hurts his playoff chances. He said he needs to get back to his 100% soon.
“Yeah, you look at the races I missed the first two weeks. Statistically, Dover and Kansas are the best places for me by a mile…There’s nobody to blame. Just have to get healthy and make up for it when I can come back,” Bowman said.
Alex Bowman needs to regain his fitness quickly but should not fast-track his return as it could lead to further injuries. He has no opportunities to secure a playoff spot based on championship points and has to win races to get into the top 16, just like his teammate Chase Elliott.
