The Daytona 500 has lived up to its moniker of the most wreck-prone race on the NASCAR schedule as two mega wrecks decided the event’s fate. Hendrick Motorsports’ No:24 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver William Byron, who played a big role in both incidents, went on to win the race under caution, while his teammate Alex Bowman finished P2.

With just eight laps left in the race, aggressive pushing from Bowman on his teammate Byron made the No:24 driver lose and make contact with Brad Keselowski. The veteran driver then went on to make contact with Joey Logano, and both combined collected over 22 cars. Then race leader Ross Chastin, alongside Byron and Bowman, was the only leading driver who survived the incident.

Race-win contenders Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Chris Buescher, and the defending race winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr. were part of the incident. The reigning Cup champion Ryan Blaney had another mega-hit as an incident ruined his duel outing involving Brad Keselowski earlier in the weekend race.

The race was red-flagged over the incident as the NASCAR safety team rushed to the scene to assist the drivers. Fortunately, no drivers had any serious injuries, and all were released from the infield care center after initial medical check-ups. This was one of the biggest wrecks at Daytona regarding cars involved in the event’s recent history.

Here is how fans reacted to the incident

The NASCAR community on X (previously Twitter) was livid at the incident. They hoped to see a solid race finish and already knew that a big one was coming. But no one expected such a big crash involving this many cars.

Some quickly checked how their favorite drivers and the remainder of the field were doing. At the same time, some fans mocked NASCAR, the drivers involved in the incident, for the big mess it turned out to be.
