Austin Dillon, former NASCAR Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series champion, joined Richard Childress Racing in 2014. A result of which he has had many teammates over the years. The No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 driver helped recruit his current teammate, Kyle Busch, to his team this season. Busch, one of the best in the business, was with Joe Gibbs Racing before he joined RCR for the 2023 season.
Austin Dillon shared his feelings about racing alongside the former Cup champion with Fox Sports. He was asked if he watched Busch’s success with happiness or pride as he played a key role in getting him to join RCR. Dillon revealed that he is happy to have a first-ballot Hall of Famer on their team and that it has been motivating. Busch departed JGR after 15 years and quickly made his mark in his new team by winning the 2023 Go Bowling At The Glen.
Austin Dillon spoke about Kyle Busch and stated he feels proud for playing a role in bringing him to RCR. He told Fox Sports, “Pride. It’s awesome having a Hall of Famer on our team right now. Everybody at the shop has a good feeling about what we are doing this year.” Dillon had previously praised Busch for his drive and fire to win races.
Austin Dillon wants RCR to succeed, and he believes it can with Kyle Busch
Dillon was also asked if he thinks it gives him credit within the shop for helping make decisions about the future. He stated, “If anything, everybody knows where my heart is, and that’s for RCR to succeed. Whatever it takes.” Austin Dillon feels this might be because he brought a driver who could outrun him. The 33-year-old credited Kyle Busch by calling him one of the best all-time racers in NASCAR history.
Both Dillon and Busch aim to take RCR to the next level. After all, it has been a while since the team won a Cup championship. Since Dale Earnhardt’s 1994 championship, the team has been in a drought. They hope to redeem themselves with their new driver pairing of Dillon and Busch. They want to be consistent and focus on winning multiple races that will bring them a championship.
With Kyle Busch’s expertise and leadership skills, Austin Dillon hopes it will be a new dawn for RCR. The North Carolina native hopes to learn from The Candy Man and is excited to be his teammate. They hope it will only be a matter of time before they win a championship. The capability of this powerhouse duo remains to be seen in the Series.
