Baltazar Leguizamón set to become the first Argentine NASCAR driver

Argentine racer Baltazar Leguizamón will become the first ever racer from the South American nation to compete in NASCAR if his deal with MBM Motorsports works out. He has already acquired his NASCAR driver’s license. Baltazar needs to secure financial backing and sponsorship deals.

He is expected to make the Xfinity Series debut in one of the six road course races. The 22-years old is from Arrecifes, a province 112 miles away from the capital Buenos Aires. He was the 2018 Atlantic Championship Series champion and finished at P2 in the inaugural season of F3 Americas. Baltazar has also ran in the Argentine touring series Top Race V6.

Baltazar Leguizamón is proud to become the first Argentinean to secure a cup series entry as part of his international dream. The South American racer’s childhood dream was to race such a premier series.

I am really proud to be the first Argentinean with a NASCAR national series license. It’s been a long way in my career, living my dream in international motorsports. All the hard work is paying off right now. This is huge for us, for my country, and for South America. It‘s my childhood dream beginning to come true,” Baltazar Leguizamón said in a press release.

He also shared his regards to the MBM garage for giving him the opportunity. Baltazar added, “I am very thankful to everyone involved with this project: the NASCAR administration, Bruce Bohlander, and Carl Long of MBM Motorsports, who opened this door for me and are helping me into this. We’ve won in seven different series, and we want to keep going at this very seriously,”

NASCAR international line-up had a confidence boost with Daniel Suarez’s maiden cup race win in 2022

The 2022 cup series witnessed history being written as Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suarez secured his maiden cup race win. The Mexican won the Sonoma Road Course Race in his second year of joining Trackhouse Racing. He became the first driver from his country to win a race in the premier NASCAR division and joined an elite list of international drivers to achieve the feat.

He also made history by securing playoff entry, and his run ended in the Round of 12. The No:99 driver scored 10 top 10 finishes from the 36 races he started. He also signed a contract extension with the team to see him race one more year for Trackhouse.
