Brodie Kostecki produced one of the best races of his life to secure the 2023 Supercars championship for Erebus Motorsport. He overthrew Trackhouse Racing-bound Shane van Gisbergen in the title chase after the Kiwi encountered an early crash. Earlier on Friday during the practice session, Kostecki gave an update about his future in NASCAR.
He made his NASCAR Cup series debut earlier this season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway driving for Hall of Fame team owner Richard Childress. He has been working as RCR’s sim driver and road course racing consultant last season, helping Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon. It helped him to land the Cup seat at Indy.
RCR’s boos and Australian NASCAR race engineer Andrew Dickinson were present on practice day of the season finale of Supercars Childress even hopped in Kostecki’s car for a hot lap. After the session, the racer told the media that he is looking forward to racing in NASCAR and confirmed he has opportunities lined up at RCR.
I’m always looking forward to driving a race car, no matter the case of what category it’s in. To have Richard here this weekend and Andrew Dickinson is really cool and we’d love to do a few [NASCAR] races next year. It’s seeming like it’s all going to come together, we’ll just have to see what happens, but I’ll just take it as it comes.Kostecki said as reported by Speedcafe.
Richard Childress explains his plans for Brodie Kosteck
Childress during the event explained the plans he has for the racer. He pointed out that Kostecki will be driving four to five races in the Cup series. They are planning to give him opportunities in the road courses as well as the Cup oval debut. The oval race will be important for a potential future in NASCAR for Kostecki.
I would like to run him in at least four, maybe five [races]. We have a few road courses but would like to also run him in an oval over here. That will see how he’s really doing, too. I know he can do road courses and street racing but we want to really run him on an oval. I think he will really be strong on an oval.
The tracks and events the Supercars champion will race in the 2024 season are yet to be decided. The call will be made taking factors such as the Supercars schedule, the availability of sponsorship, and the type of track NASCAR will be racing in those intervals.
