23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace has admitted that he has requested his teammate Tyler Reddick to win the upcoming Cup Series road course races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Watkins Glen. Michael Jordans driver wants his teammate to win the coming two races because it will help him to secure playoffs on points.

Reddick has already secured a spot in the last 16 by securing a win earlier this season at COTA. The two times Xfinity Series champion is one of the most talented RC drivers in the Cup grid, and the 23XI Camary has been consistently fast at road courses. He is also the defending race winner going into the Indy event this Sunday.

On the other hand, Bubba Wallace has never been a contender and probably won’t be one in the foreseeable future. He is in the championship top 16 with a point cushion of over 50 points, but if any two new winners emerge who are below him in the paint table, the maiden playoff dream is done for the No:23 team. So, he has asked his teammate to help him out.

I’ve hit sim a lot this week just trying to figure out where Tyler [Reddick] was fast, and I told him in our meeting Tuesday, ‘Hey man, to get the No. 23 locked in, you just go out and win these next two weeks. You’re the best road course racer — just go out and win and you’ll be fine.’ I put a little bit of extra pressure on him,” Wallace said, according to RACER.

The No:23 teams’ plan for the upcoming two weekends is pretty simple. Enjoy the races, and score some stage points, which according to Denny Hamlin, will decide the last 16 lineups. His doest wasn’t to overthink and kill the fun, which he often does in road courses. Wallace’s plan with the fast car he will get is to secure a respectable finish.

When you don’t give a [crap] about things, that makes things fun. When you start thinking and overthinking, that dials you right out, and that’s not fun. I’m a [really] good person at overthinking things, especially when it comes to road course racing, and taking the fun right out of it, so you just have to go out and get back to the basics,” Wallace said.

Wallace hopes to hold on to his top 16 spots and keep a good lead going into the regular season finale at Daytona, where he always has been among the top contenders. Four drivers below him, Ty Gibbs, Michael McDowell, Daniel Suarez, and Chase Elliott, are superior road course talents who can easily score a better finish than him.
