Bubba Wallace has once again proven his capability to pull off solid performance when demanded to stay at the top on Saturday night. He followed the 2023 Daytona regular season finale script and secured enough points to progress into the next round of playoffs while luck stood beside him. The early race crash of Joey Logano and the poor finish of Kevin Harvick.
Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s driver came to the race with a 19-point deficit and had to secure top-10 finishes in both the stages and the race. He has a solid start to the playoff campaign with a P7 at Darlington, but a crash at Kansas and the subsequent P32 finish put him in a difficult spot. If not for the poor results of the former champion, he might not have made it.
Wallace was very emotional about the result and spent some time in his car after the race to let the feelings sink in. In his post-race interview, he quoted Coco Gauff, who secured an emphatic US Open win last week, and said criticism from his haters fueled him to chase success. Wallace has embraced the booes from the crowd.
“I love that sh*t right there – counting us out (referring to boos coming from the crowd). Like (U.S. Open winner) Coco Gauff said, ‘All they’re doing is adding fuel to the fire. I love it. I love where I’m at with this team. Wish my mom, dad, and sister were here to celebrate with me. I mean, (it’s been) a career year. Just got to keep it going,” Wallace said, as reported by Motorsports.com.

Bubba Wallace isn’t ready to get complacent over Bristol result
Despite the emotional result that yielded after their solid execution, Bubba Wallace says that he isn’t ready to become complacent over it. He pointed out that he will be getting ready to tackle the challenges of the first R-12 race at Texas.
“Just what you need to do is execute, so this is a special day, and got to cherish it but can’t get complacent. We know Texas is up, and we’re OK there, but we got to come out swinging and come out on the right end of it. Ready to go to work,” Wallace said.
He added that he no longer races to prove people wrong like he used to do in the past; instead, he is focused on racing for himself and his team. Wallace said, “When you race for the team and race for yourself, all that stuff falls in line. It’s cool.”
