On January 31st Netflix released “NASCAR: Full Speed” a five-episode series about the premier stock car racing championship. With Dale Earnhardt Jr. as an executive producer the show was successful in catching most of the authentic side of NASCAR and in the initial weeks of streaming the show was a major hit.

The series featured many fan favourite drivers such as Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson. But surprisingly some big names of the sport were missing. Two times Cup champion Kyle Busch and 2020 champion Chase Elliott were the major absentees. Now Elliott in his recent appearance in Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s podcast said that he probably will say no to an opportunity to be part of the series in 2024.

I don’t know. Obviously, I didn’t do it last year. I haven’t watched it at all. So, I think my first step to answering that question would be to watch a little bit of it and just see how bad they would piss me off being around all the time. I just, you know, it might not be the most entertaining thing or the most popular answer, but dude I just want to go fast and I want to do my job at a high level and if I feel there’s anything that’s going to take away from that, I’m probably going to say no to it.
Elliott said via Dale Jr. Download.

Chase Elliott doesn’t want the Netflix camera crew always following him as it is a frustrating for any drivers. But at the same time it’s a sacrifice that comes with the commitment to the show. Elliott doesn’t want to change his usual schedule for the show and doesn’t want to be part of anything else.

We’ve got a bunch of emerging superstars. It’s our job to really go out there now and promote those drivers and make them more household names. And if we can do that, I think the sport will continue to grow.

Steve O’Donnell said.

NASCAR has the plan and platform to offer new star drivers to follow for the potential new set of fans that would be coming to the series. Promoting the new blood instead of the racers who are already big is the right step, but while doing so they shouldn’t overlook the veterans as well.
