NASCAR Cup Series drivers will hit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 22nd round of cup racing, the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard. The 2.49 miles road course, which replaced the oval race at the track, will see drivers going all out on the remaining playoff spots as with just 5 rounds of racing remaining in the regular season it’s a make-or-break situation for the drivers in the race for the playoff or the regular season championship.

Chase Elliott, the No:9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver has been having one of his best cup seasons as he leads the championship table against P2 placed Ross Chastain of Trackhouse Racing. The NAPA-sponsored driver has so far secured four wins this season, three of which came in the last five cup races where the other two times he finished P2.

Chase Elliott, hasn’t had a dominating day last weekend at Pocono as he was awarded the win by NASCAR following the disqualification of JGR veteran duo, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch, who finished P1 and P2 respectively, as they failed the post-race inspection. Chase Elliott got the win for finishing P3 which the driver won’t find as a comfortable win so JH e will be entering Indy hoping to improve upon his last cup run as well as his last year’s run at the track.

Chase Elliott acknowledged that he had his worst ever road course run last year at the track on a personal level as he never really felt like he got any hold of the track last time around, where he finished P4. He also pointed out that he got the advantage of running the Xfinity Series race as the sub which helped him later in the cup race to have some extra reps.

I feel like that’s probably been one of my worst road courses, personally. Never really felt like I got a hold of the track last year. I ended up kind of by happenstance running the Xfinity Series race last year as a sub-in. It was unfortunate circumstances there, but I was grateful to have run that race because I was really bad on the Cup side until I got some extra reps, so I think that was helpful,” Chase Elliott said.

Chase Elliott went on to say that going back to the track he has some homework to do this weekend to produce his best considering the fact that he doesn’t feel well about the rack where he wasn’t able to get any gasp or offensive action going on last time around. He pointed out that he was keener on defense last time around than going forward.

So going back, I need to do some homework this week on how to be better up there because I do not feel very good about that track and just never got in a good groove there last year at all and was never really on offense. I felt like I was on defense more than I was making moves and moving forward,” Chase Elliott added.

Chase Elliott went on to say that he doesn’t wish to be in the position he was in last time at this track or any track in the cup series so he is certainly looking forward to improving his race by putting in some valid efforts.

“That’s not a place you want to be, especially at those tracks or anywhere for that matter. It’s certainly something I want to improve at and I want to put some effort into this week to try to do that,” says Chase Elliott.
