Christopher Bell is disappointed as he is struggling to capitalize on JGR’s true potential

Joe Gibbs Racing Christopher Bell has produced his best Cup series performance this season. He has been in the top championship point table top 2 over the last six weeks and is not expected to slow down soon. Bell has already secured his spot in the playoffs with a win in the Bristol dirt race. Still, the youngster is disappointed by his run.

The No:20 Camry was the highest-finishing Joe Gibbs‘s team in the 2022 season. Bell secured a spot in the season finale by scoring impressive clutch wins towards the end of the season. He earned a Cup career-best three wins for the P3 championship finish in 2022. Bell has continued the momentum since the start of this year and has been a contender in most races.

Among all the achievements, the 2017 Truck Series champion admits that he is a bit disappointed with the output so far. He pointed out that the No:20 JGR team has what it takes to secure more points and grind out more wins. Bell and his team have missed multiple opportunities to secure a second win.

Honestly, (I’ve been) a little bit disappointed. I feel like we have speed and have the potential to do really good things, but we’re not able to capitalize on it. There’s a couple of details that we have to get ironed out before we’re really going to be competing for wins and stage wins and leading laps,” Bell said.

The biggest regret for the bell is the fact that he is the face that he is yet to secure a playoff point by winning stages. He is also leading on average six laps in a race, meaning he finds it hard to be the race leader. He said, “I just think we have a lot more potential than what we’re showing. The laps led is not ideal, and I have zero stage wins,”.

Bell went on reiterate that he needs to fix a couple of things within the No:20 team to be able to match the potential they have. He added that another driver in the Cup garage would have a similar opinion about his season so far if they think in his shoes.

I think our potential is a lot higher than what we’re showing right now. We just have a few details that we have to get figured out before we’re really going to be showing our true potential. I feel as if other guys were in my shoes. They’d be saying the same thing,” Bell said.

Bell added that though they haven’t decided on it the regular season championship that comes with 15 playoff points is their biggest aim. He said, “That is obviously the goal and definitely something we have circled and trying to shoot for. We’re just trying to keep on keeping on,”.
