Stalking Pennies podcast co-host Corey LaJoie confirmed last week that he is not in talks with any teams to make a move away from Spire Motorsports. The 31 years, old Chevy driver has been among the most improved drivers in the garage and has received praise from his peers for producing impressive runs consistently throughout the season.
His solid season it even rewarded him with an opportunity to drive a car capable of winning races. He was the substitute driver for Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott when he was suspended for one race. LeJoie failed to convert the chance of his lifetime into a solid run, but it has stopped him from running well with Spire.
Earlier this month, it was reported that LeJoie is set to sign a multi-year extension with Spire, but since then, no official announcement has been made. During the New Hampshire race weekend, he told Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass that the talks with Spire are still deep, and he isn’t exploring any alternative. Spire is the most rational option he has at the moment.
“I would rather continue building what I’m building now. Keep doing it with a group you like and building equity in the place. We have got [sponsor] Gainbridge on board … with potential upside there, so why wouldn’t I want to hitch my wagon to that a couple years longer?“ LaJoie said.

Can Corey LaJoie get the elusive NASCAR win with Spire Motorsports?
Corey LaJoie is among the few experienced drivers on the grid who hasn’t secured a win in the Top 3 national NASCAR championships. Among the major reason for his lack of results is that he has made very limited appearances in the Truck and Xianity Series, and the majority of his cup outing was not with teams capable of winning races.
He has made just two starts in the Truck Series and has the best finish of a P10 in Bristol, coming in 2014. Lejoie made 22 Xfinity Series starts and had the best finish of a P6 in Dover in 2018. In the Cup series, he has made over 202 starts and has secured six top-10 finishes. His best-ever result in the premier division is a P4 in Atlanta this season. All of his Top 10 finishes in the Cup series have come in Super Speedways.
Considering the resources he had with the teams he raced for, those are solid results. Lejoie’s best shot at winning races might probably remain on the superspeedways for the foreseeable future. Spire has proven that on a given day, they can produce a car capable of winning in the 2019 Coke 400 with Justin Haley, so if Spire builds a team around Lejoie, he might pull off an upset.
