Martin Truex Jr.‘s hopes of making the playoffs were dashed when Austin Dillon, the 16th different race winner of the season, drove the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Camaro ZL1 to victory lane in Daytona. Austin Dillon’s victory and ascent to the playoffs were significantly aided by good fortune and his teammate Tyler Reddick’s unwavering support.

Austin Dillon made it through the chaotic race. The RCR driver seized the chance with both hands when he was given a short window of opportunity to squeeze his way to the lead in a multi-car incident that occurred in the front row on lap 138 after making a remarkable comeback after losing a lap in a crash that happened on lap 125.

Austin Dillon’s win cost the most for JGR driver Martin Truex Jr. who has been winless throughout 2022. Though he was a strong candidate for playoff entry against fellow winless driver Ryan Blaney the latter produced an incredible drive post-rain delay, which earned him a three-point lead over the farmer and a playoff entry.
