JR Motorsports co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a rollercoaster of a day at Homestead Miami last Saturday that saw him secure a P5 finish, his first top-5 since driving his own No:88 Chevy. It was his second start of the season in the Xfinity Series, with the first one coming in Bristol, where he retired early after his car caught on fire.

Dale Jr., who usually calls the races on Saturday and Sunday for NBC, has a super competitive attitude during the event, just like how things were during his full-time NASCAR exploits. But his temporary crew, due to their lack of experience together, prompted some situations where the driver vented at them on the team radio.

The Hall of Famer called out his spotter and crew chief for not-so-clean communication following an incident involving Brett Moffitt. After the initial poor run, after starting race P23, he started moving up and racing in a better track position. But late in the race, he went on another rant due to some, and this time, he wasn’t polite.

I’m just trying to get into a f****** rhythm here. There is a lot of f****** talking going on right now. I hit the wall like a motherf***** the last couple of laps. Let me concentrate
Dale Jr. said on the team radio, as reported by Heavy.com.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. ended Josh Berry’s race due to poor communication

Another example of a communication issue the team has was the incident where Dale Jr. sent his No:8 JRM Chevy driver Josh Berry, who will replace Kevin Harvick in SHR next season, to the wall.  The incident was an after-effect of Junior’s misinterpreting the message from his spotter.

The No:88 driver was told he was racing three wide with the No:8 car on the outside. But Dale Jr. thought that Berry was closing the gap on him from the back, and when his car got loose, he moved to the outside lane to let Berry through.

Things went south really quickly as they made contact, and the Chevy was sent to the outside wall. His car suffered significant damage, and he was forced to retire. Berry not being an R-8 contender due to his elimination in the earlier round was good for Dale Jr., as ending his race while Berry was chasing the title would’ve been worse.
