A sport like NASCAR requires dedication, passion, and resolve to succeed, with many drivers starting young to kickstart their careers. The 1999 Cup champion Dale Jarrett recently revealed in the NBC podcast how motorsports can affect young talents looking to make their place in it.
Jarrett expressed his concerns about how the young drivers might burn out starting so early. He said youngsters like Kyle Busch‘s son Brexton and Kevin Harvick‘s son Keelan are getting great opportunities at a very young age, but it remains to be seen how long they continue before burning out.
“But you know they get burnt out to some extent. And you know, you look at Brexton Bush and Keelan Harvick, you know, they’re getting great opportunities to start when they’re young. But will they continue that you know there are they getting to be a kid did?,” Jarrett is quoted by Essentially Sports.
Jarrett advocated the idea of ‘kid first, racer second’ for young drivers. While these kids start so young, the question remains how they juggle so many things together as they grow up.

Born on 18th May 2015, Brexton Busch has already started following his father’s footsteps. He picked up his first-ever victory at Mountain Creek Speedway on 26th September 2020. He also won his first track championship in the Saturday Beginner Box Stock Division at Millbridge Speedway.
Meanwhile, ten-year-old Keelan Harvick started racing when he was seven. Harvick finished fifth overall in the IAME World Finals Championship at Le Mans. While his father has a big name in NASCAR, Harvick has stated his wish to race in Formula One and not just follow his father’s model. He said, “My dad already built his name in NASCAR. I want to build something different. I want to go to F1.”
Kevin Harvick also praised his son’s involvement in the sport as he explained how he has been around cars his whole life and understands racing much better than the other kids. He said that post-retirement, he focuses on being a good guide to his son.
“He understands more (about racing) than most kids because he’s been around it all his life… A new chapter is calling. One where being a dad and a husband takes precedence over being a driver,” said Harvick.
