Sherry Pollex, the former longtime partner of 2017 NASCAR Cup series champion Martin Truex Jr., passed away after her nine-year-long battle with cancer. The news shocked the NASCAR community as she was one of the most beloved personalities. Truex Jr. and Pollex announced their separation just six months ago.
Martin Truex Jr. released a statement just a few hours after the family announced the unfortunate news and was quick to offer his condolences. But former NASCAR driver and IndyCar race winner Danica Patrick didn’t like how it was composed. She took it to Instagram to voice her displeasure but then deleted the post.
She shared Martin Truex Jr.’s statement and claimed it was written by a PR representative of him and not the driver. Patrick claimed it was a cold statement and said she was happy that Sherry Pollex no longer had to put up with this. The former driver in the post, who received massive backlash, admitted that the TRD driver is someone she never really liked.
“I avoid negativity on social media at almost all costs. Almost…But this is the most insensitive, disconnected statement from a guy that I have never liked. And obviously, for a good reason. I don’t care what happened between them, but this is as cold as it gets. A PR rep wrote this guaranteed. You are free from this now, Sherry,” she wrote on her Instagram story (H&T: Yardbreaker)
What did Martin Truex Jr. say about Sherry Pollex’s death?
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver started his statement by highlighting Pollex’s fight against ovarian cancer since she was first diagnosed. He added that she made a difference in the lives of many people while fighting cancer and admitted it is inspiring.
“From the very minute of her diagnosis, Sherry was determined to not only fight ovarian cancer with everything she had but also make a difference in the lives of others battling this terrible disease. Sherry’s passion for making a difference in the lives of others was inspiring to everyone,” Truex Jr. wrote.
Before extending his condolences to the Pollex family, he said that the legacy of Sherry will remain beyond lifetimes. He said, “Through her tireless charity work for so many years, her legacy will live well beyond our lifetimes and continue to help countless families who are battling ovarian and childhood cancer.”
