Daniel Suarez had a great start to his 2023 season after he signed a multi-year contract extension with Trackhouse Racing. This was the first time in his Cup carer that the Mexican driver went into a season with a guaranteed place in the line-up for the season after. Suarez had a good start to the 2023 season opener, the Daytona 500, and ended with a P7 finish among the double overtime chaos.

Ahead of the season’s second race, which is also the final race in the worn-out Auto Club Speedway, Suarez pointed out that he had a crazy experience at Daytona. He lacked a better track position throughout and got lost when he got himself into a comfortable position. The disappointment didn’t break Suroz’s confidence instead, he is more hopeful about winning the superspeedway race in the future.

It was a little bit crazy, but I told the team they did a hell of a job. We lacked track position most of the day, and when it mattered the most, we had it. We just spun out there, and I was just struggling with loose balance when people would get to the rear bumper for some reason,” Suarez said.

That one, the 2, came very close to me, very tight, and the car behind me came very close and got me loose. We recovered, and we are getting better at this kind of racing, and we are going to get one of these one days,” Suarez added.

Regarding Sunday’s cup outing at Fontana, the No:1 Chevy driver said he is optimistic about their chances. He said,  “I love racing there. The track is so fast and wide. The restarts are amazing. We were so close there last year despite hitting the wall. We are very optimistic for Sunday,”.

Suarez doesn’t have a strong record at Fontana. He has an average finish of 16 at the track, has finished inside the top 10 twice, and has finished inside the top 20 thrice from 5 Cup starts. He scored his best finish, P4, last year.  Suarez loves the track more than just racing reason, he said that he feels at home thanks to the racing community of Fontana.

I love that racetrack. I love that place. The community there always makes me feel at home…I think it will be very sad if we wouldn’t come back. I don’t think that’s going to happen, though. But I think definitely there is going to be a main change. I just hope that transition happens quickly, and we can come back and not miss anything else,” Suarez said.
