Joe Gibbs Racing is going through a reformative face in the Cup series, and the top Toyota team of the Cup series is in for a big potential driver line-up change soon. JGR’s most successful driver in their history Kyle Busch leaving the team to join RCR was the first step to it, and the team’s other two veterans, Martin Truex Jr., and Denny Hamlin are, in their last year of the contract.
Both veterans are in different situations in terms of the contract renewal. Denny Hamlin is fully onboard to extend his contract and has no plans to retire anytime soon. Conversely, Truex Jr. must make a retirement decision before starting contract talks. Kyle Busch‘s exit which came after failed contract negations and failure to attract sponsors, might repeat for the No:11 and No:19 drivers.
In a recent interview with Bob Pokrass of Fox Sport, Denny Hamlin opened up about his contract situation. Hamlin is confident that he can get the deal done soon though it will take some time, and he wants to end his career with JGR, something which always has been his plan.
“I am Confident, as long as I ma racing want to be with Joe Gibbs Racing and they want to be with me. Certainly I think that theses talks will go on for few months. There is just to many other aspects that goes into this,” Denny Hamlin said.
Hamlin being a co-owner of 23X1 Racing, which has an alliance with JGR, will also play a major part in contract talks. He said, “Myself having a Toyota team, and we have an alliance with JGR. There is a lot to navigate as a lot of contracts are all up at the same time,”.
When asked about it, Denny Hamlin doesn’t expect a Kyle Busch situation to happen to him and pointed out that they just have to negotiate on some sensitive external factors to get the deal done. He said, “I don’t think myself and Joe Gibbs Racing will have any problem getting deal done. There is just some external factors that we have to be sensitive about, and I want to make sure it gets done in time,”.

Denny Hamlin already has a big contract signed for 2023
Denny Hamlin is going to have a busy 2023 season as he has signed a contract with NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s podcast-producing media house, Dirty Mo Media. He will produce his own podcast, “Actions Detrimental with Denny Hamlin,” and the first episode will air on February 6.
“Denny is one of the more polarizing individuals in the sport right now. We know he can be candid, opinionated, and entertaining as a driver, but he also is very insightful on the challenges and thrills of team ownership,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on signing Denny Hamlin.
“I want to enhance their NASCAR experience by offering a perspective they can’t get anywhere else. I want them to be able to hear directly from the drivers and team owners. If I am able to do all that, we will have succeeded,” Hamlin said on joining Dale Jr.
