Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin marked the start of the 2024 season in style by winning the LA Clash, the unofficial season opener. He won the race after starting on the pole for topping the practice session. The race was postponed to Sunday due to the Thunderstorm that was set to hit LA in the coming days.

Hamlin and all three JGR cars qualified for the race were the best on the track, and he made full use of it. The No:11 Camary got spun earlier in the race and was dropped to the back, but he was able to gain positions during the long green-flag run mid-way to the race. He lined himself in the top-5 with just ten laps left for the restart.

Hamlin took the lead with just ten laps left when Ty Gibbs ran Joey Logano to the fence while fighting for the lead. Logano later confronted Gibbs after the race. The 23XI Racing co-owner expertly held off the charge from his ex-teammate Kyle Busch in RCR No:8 Chevy and took home the win. It’s Hamlin’s fourth career clash win, making him the second most successful all-time in the event.

Hamlin, being one of the most disliked drivers on the grid, was welcomed with books by the fans. And just like he did last season, he took a swipe at the fans, reminding them he has defeated all of their favorite drivers. Since then, Hamlin fully embraced the NASCAR villain role in the 2023 season and never hesitated to take shots at his haters.

You know I beat your favorite driver again, right?
Hamlin told the fans via Fox Sports.

The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran is one of the most accomplished drivers when it comes to Crown Jewel races in NASCAR, and he has won many, including the Daytona 500, the most prestigious one of all, three times. He is hoping to win his fourth and first of the Next-Gen era.

t’s just a great momentum boost…You know, I clean off all the trophies every January 1st in the entryway of the house and now we get to add another one pretty quick, so pretty happy about that.
