Bubba Wallace didn’t have the best races at Watkins Glen, as he could only secure 12th position. As Wallace remains in a dicey place over the playoffs-qualification situation, 23XI racing co-owner Denny Hamlin has praised Wallace’s performance after he himself finished second for JGR.
Hamlin said that Wallace deserves to race in the playoffs this season. He noted that Wallace has been working hard all season and that he is proud of him. Hamlin said Wallace is always open to criticism and has grown up in his time with 23XI.
“I’m rooting for Bubba. I want him to run whatever race he needs to run to get himself in the playoffs. I think he deserves it, I think he’s been working really hard. He’s grown up. … I’m really proud of the man he’s becoming, the competitor he’s becoming, the leader he’s becoming,” Hamlin is quoted by ProTalk.
Wallace is currently 14th in the driver standings. While he doesn’t have a victory, he is still eligible for the playoffs on points. However, he stands on very thin ice because if a new winner emerges in Daytona, he will be eliminated.

Denny Hamlin predicts the season finale at Daytona to be ‘an absolute crash fest’
The NASCAR Cup Series regular season will end at Daytona this Sunday. The race will be very crucial as all the drivers who are currently out of the playoffs would be racing for the first spot, directly getting them a place in the playoffs. JGR driver Denny Hamlin, who is already well settled in the playoffs list, said that this increased aggression would make the race at Daytona a ‘crash fest.’
As things stand, 23XI’s Bubba Wallace will be taking the last spot in the playoffs. Drivers like Daniel Suarez, Ty Gibbs, and Chase Elliott are close behind him with their one final shot at Daytona. Hamlin, on his podcast Actions Detrimental, explained how the race will be unpredictable with all the drivers pushing for the first position.
“Superspeedway racing is different than it used to be. We’ve talked about this a billion times. Everyone’s going to try and go right from lap one. I do think that this is going to be a, just an absolute crash-fest. I think that the pushes are going to get too extreme,” said Hamlin.
