“Everybody’s got a stake in this,” Scott Miller fires back at Kevin Harvick for “crappy parts” comments

Scott Miller and Kevin Harvick

Kevin Harvick had a disappointing end to his 2022 championship chase. A few mechanical failures and a few bad calls from NASCAR prompted the former champion’s elimination from the playoff. The No:4 SHR driver failed to secure any convincing finish in the first two races of the playoff. The P10 finish in Bristol was far from enough for the veteran.

Kevin Harvick following the Bristol race, where his car caught on fire, pointed out that the creepy parts used in the car are the major reason for his car catching on fire, saying, “I’m sure it’s just the crappy parts on the race car like we’ve seen so many times. We haven’t fixed anything,”.

NASCAR was quick to react to Kevin Harvick’s comments in Bristol.  They once again found themselves in the wrong after the Bristol race. Several teams faced steering wheel issues and engine failure on Sunday.

The organization has once again expressed its thoughts on the criticism.  NASCAR senior vice president of competition Scott Miller addressed the Bristol issues and pointed out they are working to resolve the issues. He also took a shot at Kevin Harvick’s crappy parts comments.

Scott Miller reminded everyone that all the teams and manufacturers were involved in the process of choosing the parts for the Next-Gen cars. He pointed out that it just is NASCAR but every team has their stake in choosing the “crappy parts” as he took a shot at Kevin Harvick.

“All the teams and (manufacturers) were involved in the RFP process when we chose the parts. Everybody’s got a stake in this, and it’s not just NASCAR choosing quote-unquote, crappy parts,” Scott Miller said.

Scott Miller pointed out that the newness of parts being used this season makes it a learning curve. He said: “With every part of this car being a new part and a new design, I think historically in racing, and any walk of life when you do something completely new … there’s a learning curve,”.

Scott Miller went on to say that NASCAR is working hard to make things work this season. For most part, they have been successful. He pointed out the steering wheel issue which came up in Bristol and pointed out that it’s team serviceable.

We’re in that learning curve and working really hard to make sure that everything works. I think for the most part it has. We did have some steering issues at Bristol. That is, again, a part that was chosen through the RFP process, and it is team-serviceable. That’s where we are right now,” Scott Miller added.

Scott Miller acknowledged that they are doing everything to resolve issues. He pointed out that the issues which came up in Bristol were unacceptable and added they are working hard so that it would not be repeated.

“Are we looking to improve on when we have problems? We absolutely 100% are every single day. What happened at Bristol was not acceptable. We will diligently work to come up with a solution to where that doesn’t happen again,” Scott Miller explained.
