‘Everything about my driving is evolving,’ Ross Chastain on driving the Next-Gen car

Trackhouse Racing has been the revelation of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series as the 2-year-old team has secured two Cup race win after the completion of 10 rounds of racing, thanks to their No:1 car driver Ross Chastain who won at Talladega and COTA. The “Watermelon Man’s” teammate Daniel Suarez has also been impressive so far this season and if not for his bad luck Trackhouse team’s wins might have been more than two.
Pitbull and Justin Marks owned team can be considered a testament to how well NASCAR was able to bring the track closer together by introducing the Next-Gen cars, which gives comparatively smaller teams a chance at winning a Cup race. Trackhouse Racing was able to provide their racers with high-performance cars and they are now reaping the fruits from it.
The Next-Gen car has offered a lot of challenges to the racers owing to the changes NASCAR has made to the car. Now one of the Multiple race winners of the season, Ross Chastain has come forth to give his take on the changes the Next-Gen cars have gone through.

Ross Chastain acknowledged that driving the Next-Gen car is a totally Different feeling as he had to re-learn so many different things including the gear shifting pattern. He said that the only things he has similar to his previous years are his seat, insert, and steering wheel. Etc. Ross Chastain went on to say the car use different chassis and has a different mood to it.
“Driving this car is totally different. I mean I’ve had to re-learn so many things. I mean down to shifting and how the sequential works versus the H pattern. The only thing that is the same for me in the car is my seat, my bucket, my insert, and my steering wheel. Literally, everything else is different. So, all the inputs are different. Everything that the car tells me comes through in a different way. The chassis’ is completely different,” Ross Chastain said.
Ross Chastain went on to say that everything about his driving is evolving following each and every lap around the tracks. He added that he is yet to run a perfect lap and said he won’t know that he will do that ever but will be working hard to get closer to that dream. Ross Chastain went on to say he is uncertain about what the car requires and he is not hustling the car as he used to in the past adding he doesn’t expect it to be any different in the Dover this Sunday.
“It’s just everything about my driving is evolving. It’s always evolving as a race car driver. Every race car driver evolves every lap around the track and for me, I’ve never run the perfect lap, and I don’t think that I ever will. I will keep working to be as close as I can to that. It’s evolving and this car I don’t know what it requires, but I know that I don’t hustle the car like I used to. I don’t expect to go out here at Dover and that to be any different,” Ross Chastain added.
