Kaulig Racing No:31 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver Justin Haley will drive for Rick Ware Racing from the 2024 season onwards. The 2019 Coke 400 winner has signed a multi-year deal with the team to leave his current crew at the end of the season and join the RWR at the end of this season. It is the second major driver announcement of 2023 since Josh Berry’s move to SHR.
Haley is one of the Cup talents who is projected to have a strong career in the Cup series if given a solid car. With the move, Haley is not only exiting the Kaulig Racing job, he will end his partnership with the manufacturer Chevy. RWR fields two Ford Mustangs (No:15 and No:51) in the series. Haley will have the backing of Brad Keselowski co-owned RFK Racing.
Justin Haley decided to switch teams as he recognized the RWR move as the way forward to take the next step in the Cup series. He said, “This is a unique opportunity that I look forward to. There are many key pieces of this program I believe can help me in taking the next steps in my NASCAR career. The alliance with RFK Racing is going to be pivotal for the future.”
Rick Ware decided to sign the driver as he was impressed by the ability and accomplishment of the driver alongside his versatility. Ware said, “This is a great day for our team on many levels. I have known Justin for a long time, respect all he has achieved in many forms of motorsports… his versatility as a driver in multiple series, the continuity we can build around Justin.”
Haley made a name for himself before even making his full-time debut in the Cup in 2019 when he won the second regular season race at Daytona driving for Spire Motorsports. He had a solid time in Xfinity Series with Kaulig while making regular Cup appearances. He got the much-awaited Cup promotion last year and has since secured 10 top 10s from 56 starts.

NASCAR fans are surprised to see Justin Haley’s RWR move

The NASCAR fans on Twitter were quick to share their thoughts about the move and were genuinely surprised by Haley’s move. They were quick to label it a downgrade, considering Kaulig is a contender for wins in most of the Road Course races and a contender for top 10s in the regular tracks. On the other hand, RWR is not a contender in any track.
Fans came up with many theories to make sense of the situation. Few claimed that the team management asked Haley to quit as they had different plans for the future. Some said Kaulig might be making a seat available for Supercars legend Shane Van Gisbergan. They were also fans saying RWR would make a big leap to the front with Haley.
