“Embarrassing, worst Daytona 500 coverage EVER”-  NASCAR fans furious with Fox for Daytona 500 coverage

Daytona International Speedeway

The 2023 Daytona 500 officially started the 75th anniversary season, and fans were in for a thriller finish at Florid.  No:47 JTG Daugherty Racing driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. scored his maiden Great American Race win in front of the sold-out crowd in double overtime.

It was the longest Daytona 500 in sports history. But unlike the fans who were present at the stadium, the millions of viewers who watched the race from the comfort of their homes via official broadcasters, Fox Sports couldn’t extract the complete utility from the streaming.

One of the major complaints fans had was the abundance of advertisements that were streamed while the race was on. The full-and-short-term add windows bored the fans, and the caution-ridden race increased their frustration. The split-screen ads shown also created a stir. The impressive commentary from Clint Bowyer and Mike Joy was often disturbed by such breaks.

The lack of proper post-race coverage also frustrated the fans. This has been a long-standing criticism of both Fox and NBC event coverage. Fans couldn’t see the race-changing moments like Kevin Harvick spinning Tyler Reddick and causing a multicar wreck fest, as Fox transitioned to commercials just before the incidents unfolded.
