Harrison Burton claims a playoff entry by winning a Cup race is still ‘feasible’ for him
Harrison Burton securing a win is highly unlikely since he has secured just two top-10 finishes in 2023, which came at Darlington and Pocono.

Harrison Burton, son of NASCAR legend Jeff Burton, is in his second full-time seaosn in the Cup series. The 22-year-old believes he can win a race while his father, an NBC sports analyst, is in the race booth calling the race. He still believes that he can get into the playoffs with the No:21 Ford Mustang team of Wood Brothers Racing.
Burton sees a shot at a win in Daytona, where in the seaosn opener, he led 12 laps. The Road Cours race next week at Watkins Glen is too big for the team to fight for a win. He and WBR will be delighted if he can secure the all-important win that can sure him a playoff spot, just like Ricky Stenhouse Jr. did in the season opener.
He told the RACER that Daytona is a place where everybody is a contender amidst the chaos. The regular season finale will be the final shot for a win and playoff entry for many drivers from the top teams. But he still sees a viable opportunity at the track and is confident he can make it to his maiden Cup playoff if everything goes right.
“Daytona is obviously one anyone can win. We’ve obviously seen crazy Daytona 500s, yes, and then the last race trying to get in. It’s always chaos. So, trying to navigate that and understand that there are going to be a lot of other guys in the same boat. I see it as a legit, feasible chance. If I didn’t, I probably wouldn’t even show up. I feel like it’s part of what makes race car drivers tick,” Burton said.

Harrison Burton claims he had a legit shot at winning races at Daytona and Darlington
The four times Xfinity Series race winner pointed out that he had the best shot at a win he had in his whole cup career at Daytona and Darlington. He calls the two Superspeedway races his best shot at success. Burton overcame the chaos, and Superspeedways being favorable to small teams also helped his cause.
“It was this year’s (Daytona) 500, where we were leading with like 12 or 13 (laps) to go. I categorized that as a legit chance to win that race, and I kind of got ping-ponged out of the lead. I think that was a legit chance. We could have had the win. Then, Darlington: Those last two restarts. Even with all the chaos, we had a good chance to win. Those two, I think, were good races for us,” Burton added.
