‘He can’t win a race, so it does it that way,’ William Byron on ‘Moron’ Joey Logano bumping him off the way to win the Goodyear 400
Joey Logano and William Byron
Darlington is traditionally known for the bad behavior, beating and banging, and the wrecks but the Next-Gen cars Goodyear 400 debut was nothing like that as most of the drivers kept it clean through putting the race. The lap 167 incident between veterans Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski resulted in the former walking of the race leaving his car on the pit road alongside the last-lap incident between champion Joey Logano and William Byron the most radioactive scenes of the race.
Joey Logano won the race in the turn 3 of the final lap where he overtook then race leader William Byron, who was the only driver to have survived until the end in the top 5 of the race since the beginning, by shoving him off to the walls causing damages to his No:24 Hendrick Motorsport car and eventually relegating him to P13.
Joey Logano secured his first win for Team Penske Racing since his last win at Bristol in 2021 and defended his decision to shove off William Byron, something he is notorious for, saying ‘Yeah, you’re not going to put me in the wall and not get anything back,’ pointing to an earlier incident they had where Logano was at the receiving side.
But now William Byron has come forth calling out Joey Logano for the way he secured his win and defending the early-race incident they had where he was the driver to blame.
Find out what William Byron said
William Byron was quick to address the early race incident between him and Joey Logano which he believed spooked the last-lap incident calling it that they were just close at that time and he secured the lead by forcing him against the wall. The HMS driver then went on an angry rant at Joey Logano calling him an idiot and moron as he claims Logano only wins races by shoving people off the track at the end
“We were really close off Turn 2 and I think it spooked him. It got him tight and he was right against the wall, and I got the lead. He’s an idiot; he does this stuff all the time; I’ve seen it with other guys. Yeah, he’s a moron. He can’t win a race, so it does it that way,” William Byron said.
William Byron went on to explain that Joey Logano drove the Turn 3 of the last lap 10 miles an hour too fast than usual with the next-Gen car and slammed him hard to the wall knocking the whole side of his car. He went on to say that Logano didn’t even make the run a contest though he was slower than the No:24 car.
“He drove in there (Turn 3 on the white-flag lap) 10 miles an hour too fast, and with these Next-Gen cars, he slammed me so hard it knocked the whole right side off the car. There was no way to make the corner. We were faster than him. In the end, the right rear started to go away. He didn’t even make it a contest,” William Byron explained.
