How Austin Dillon helped his grandfather to land Kyle Busch, in the No:8 RCR car?
Austin Dillon and Kyle Busch
Kyle Busch has finally signed the much-awaited cup contract though not with either JGR or Toyota as the veteran decided to end his 15- years long relationship with the manufacturer to return to Chevy. Kyle Busch has signed a multiyear contract with Richard Childress Racing and will take over the No:8 team starting from 2023.
Kyle Busch’s exit from Toyota leaves a big void in Joe Gibbs Racing and the manufacturer. The legacy the veteran is leaving behind in the team is hard to replace as he is a two times cup champion who has driven the Toyota cars to victory lane more than 200 times. On the other hand, RCR getting a championship contender who can get them back to their best.
Richard Childress Racing though has been one of the greatest cup teams of the past has never been able to get back to its glory days in the recent past. So having Kyle Busch aboard will be a step in the right direction for them and having him as a replacement for Tyler Reddick, who is leaving for Toyota in 2022 is also a win-win situation for them.
Kyle Busch didn’t have a great relationship with RCR in the past as they had some unfinished beef from the past. But the veteran and the chevy team decided to forget it all to have a new start. Now Austin Dillon the No:3 RCR driver and grandson of team owner Richard Childress has come forth revealing how he made Kyle Bush switch to RCR.

Find out what Austin Dillon said
Austin Dillon pointed out that when they had the conversation reading his move to the team Kyle was skeptical about it considering the troubled past, they had. He added that he told him they have already moved on forgiving and forgetting the past incidents.
“I talked to him about it, and he was open to it. I think he was more like, ‘Yeah, do you think he’d want to come?’ because of the past. I was like, Kyle’s a man, just like you are. Forgive and forget and move on,” Austin Dillon said.
Austin Dillon added that Busch was surprised about RCR’s interest in him saying, “He was kind of in the same boat of, ‘RC wants me?’. I was like, ‘Yeah, man, why wouldn’t he?’ Two-time champion. Great winner in this sport. I just told him we wanted him and that’s where it started,”.
Austin Dillon acknowledged that he is super excited to have the two times champion as a teammate saying “After that, it was more about getting Torrey and Mike [Dillon] hooked up and Kyle having a meeting with RC, and that’s the direction we were able to push this whole thing. I’m super excited to have a two-time champion at RCR,”.
Austin Dillon went on to say that when he first came to RCR he was excited to drive with Kevin Harvick, but was disappointed after he moved on from the team to SHR. So now with Kyle Busch as a teammate, he has that figured out and added that they both can bring something new to each other.
“When I first came to RCR, I thought I was going to have a shot to work with Kevin Harvick and he moved on, and now it’s like the first time I’ll have that figure around me. And I think we both can bring something to each other,” added Austin Dillon.
