When you are at the top of your game you will be one of the luckiest people around a case that was proven true for the No:9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver Chase Elliott as he secured his third win in five cup races at Pocono Raceway following the disqualification Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch. The Joe Gibbs Racing drivers were disqualified in the post-race inspection.

NASCAR later revealed that the main reason for tef disqualification was the infraction of the front where “It was on the lower fascia, which is the bottom part of the nose that attaches to the splitter. It was extra layers of vinyl that in effect deviated the part from the approved CAD files” Chase Elliott was lucky for the fact that his car didn’t have to go through the process, don’t think it would have mattered but …, as only the front two and a random car is checked by NASCAR.

Chase Elliott only came to know about his win after a long time as he was on his way back home with his father Bill Elliott as the duo had a busy racing weekend, both were part of the final SRX race of the season, and he couldn’t receive the message of him getting the win on Denny Hamlin’s misfortune.

Chase Elliott was confronted by the media just after he got to know that he was awarded the win and he acknowledged his disbelief at the result saying he was more surprised by it than anything and pointed out that it’s not the kind of win he wants to have or celebrate as it came at the cost of someone else’s misfortune and it can be taken away if JGR successfully appeals against the decision.

I was kind of more surprised by it than anything. I don’t think any driver wants to win that way. I certainly don’t… I don’t really feel right celebrating someone else’s misfortune. And it could change by Wednesday or Thursday or Friday,” says Chase Elliott.

Chase Elliott went on to say that he is unaware of the details of the DQ and once again reiterated he is neither not proud of the win nor he is going to boast about it. He pointed out that they were really fortunate to run at P3 if he is being honest as he had a struggling time during the mid-part of the race. It’s also worth mentioning that Elliott was lucky due to Ross Chastain getting slammed to the wall by Denny Hamlin and the subsequent turn taking out Kevin Harvick, drivers who would have won the race if the car was good after the incident.

I don’t know the details of what went on, I don’t know what made them make that decision. It’s not necessarily something I’m proud of or going to boast about throughout the course of this situation. I thought we were really fortunate to run third, to be honest with you. We started off OK and struggled through the mid portion of the event, and I thought for us to get back into the top five was really a good day,” added Chase Elliott.

Chase Elliott went on to say that they were really lucky for the win and once again pointed out that it is not the kind of win a race car driver wants if it gets overturned or not. He highlighted once again that he is not going to celebrate someone else’s misfortune or whatever situation it is as it doesn’t seem a good thing to do for him as he only sees a P3 finish for him.

I thought we were lucky. Again, no race car driver wants to win that way, and whether it gets overturned or not, I’m not going to celebrate somebody’s misfortune or whatever for that situation. That doesn’t seem right to me. I crossed the line third. That’s how I’m looking at it,” Explained Chase Elliott.
