Martin Truex Jr. will hit the Darlington Raceway as the defending champion at the annual Goodyear 400. The 2017 Cup Series champion now ranks at P9 in the championship table with 336 points to his name.

Martin Truex Jr. who drives the No: 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry secured a 12th place finish last week at Dover after his return to the Top 5 in Talladega the week before. The veteran has been somewhat consistent this season and he will be hoping to convert that into a first win behind the wheels of a Next-Gen car in Darlington.

Now Martin Truex Jr. reveals that he is confident going into Darlington Raceway though the race track can be proven tricky.

Christopher Bell acknowledged that Darlington is going to be tough pointing toward the tire test done by his teammate Denny Hamlin who lost over the course of the run. He went on to say that Darlington has made keeping the car balanced much harder after the difficulty level was increased due to the introduction of next-gen cars. Christopher Bell predicted that the winner of the race will be the driver with the best old tire at the end.

“Darlington is going to be tough. My teammate Denny Hamlin did a tire test there and lost grip over the course of the run. As we know it’s been the name of the game trying to keep your car balanced and handling well over the course of a tire run is very difficult and with these new cars, it’s become even more difficult. It’s going to be a battle for sure and to see whoever can get their car to drive the best on old tires,” Christopher Bell said.
