The IndyCar series will hit the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday for the Indy 500 which will see the top names of US open-wheel racing alongside former racing legends contesting for glory. Jimmie Johnson, the seven times NASCAR cup champion, will make his  Indy 500 debut on Sunday which has attracted the eyes of every racing fan around the US and the world.

The former No:48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy driver will be racing for the No: 48 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda at Brickyard and will be hoping that his oval experience might help him to overcome the constraints and go for the win. Many NASCAR Cup drivers and veterans who have had previously competed with the champion have only good words for the legend.

Now Jimmie Johnson’s former HMS teammate Chase Elliott, who leads the 2022 cup championship after 13 rounds of racing has come forth expressing his opinion on the chances of Johnson going back home with the podium in his debut race. He pointed out the fact that the oval experience and brilliance offers a great chance at a win in Indy for Johnson.

Chase Elliott acknowledged that he is going to try to keep up with the telecast of the Indy 500 as best as he can as he pointed out that his day usually always gets busy when the race gets on or winds down. He went on to say he hopes to see his former teammate Jimmie Johnson will be driving one of the cars and he might be able to get away from being late some obligations if the NASCAR legend is in lead.

I’m going to try to keep up as best I can; I feel like our day is always getting kind of busy when that race is going on or at least when it starts to wind down…I’ll try to keep up with it. Hopefully, he (Johnson)’s in the running and if so, I might be late to one or two obligations if Jimmie’s leading that thing coming down to the end,” Chase Elliott said.

Chase Elliott went on to say he was super Intrigued and excited for his ex-teammate as he believes the veteran got a genuine shot at winning the race. He pointed out that Jimmie Johnson impressed everyone with his Texas oval Indy run which wasn’t any surprise for him as he is well aware of how good Johnson is around ovals. Chase Elliott reiterated that he believes Jimmie Johnson got a shot at winning.

“I’m super intrigued and I’m excited for him. I think he has a legit shot at it from what I’ve kept up with. And his performance at Texas, I think, impressed a lot of people. I wasn’t super surprised by that, just as good as he is on ovals and how much oval experience he has. So, I think that’s really cool. As I said, I feel like he’s got a shot at the win,” Chase Elliott added.
