NASCAR cup series team returned to Richmond International Raceway for the second cup race of the season and unlike the last race in spring this time the track produced an entertaining race. The No:4 car of Stewart Hass Racing veteran Kevin Harvick crossed the finish line first ahead of JGR driver Christopher Bell who gave the veteran a strong fight to the end.
Chris Buescher, the No:17 RFK Racing Ford Mustang driver, produced one of the best races of his career at Richmond finishing P3 as the second-best Ford at the track. The Ford driver wasn’t able to convert his fast runs to a win though as the lap traffic and the impressive run by Kevin Harvick upfront proved too much for him.

Chris Buescher acknowledged that it was a really close call for the RFK Ford at Richmond and pointed out that the job his team did overnight to get him this close to winning Sunday, with the fantastic car they had. He pointed out that though it is easy to say that the P3 finish doesn’t matter in this form of racing it’s nice to keep progressing and getting better through summer.
“Really close. Everyone on our Fastenal Mustang did such a tremendous job overnight because we didn’t know we were in this position yesterday. I didn’t qualify really well, and everyone worked hard and had a fantastic race car today. I think it’s a little easy with this format to feel like the third place doesn’t matter, but it’s nice to be close and to keep progressing and really getting better as we’ve gotten through the summer,” Chris Buescher said.
Chris Buescher went on to add that it’s really neat to find P3 and is proud of everyone for being with him and pointed out that the burned rear tires and the lap traffic didn’t do any favors to him towards the end. He added that if he got to keep the rears under, he would have been able to have a better shot at a win.
“Really neat to finish here. Really proud of everybody. Just burned the rear tires up. Ultimately that’s on me. Lap traffic didn’t do us any favors, either, but ultimately just got to keep the rears under us a little bit better so we can have a little bit better shot there to get after him for the win,” Chris Buescher added.
He went on to say that it’s not really fair to look at results as he has been underwhelming at beginning of the year and added that they had some time at the track without any improvements. He pointed out that he is now having some good runs over the last couple of weeks with a solid and pay car. He added that he needs to do some clean-ups and improve himself for the coming race weeks progressing through all of it.
“You know, it’s not really fair to just look at results because at the beginning of the year we didn’t fire off as good as we thought. We didn’t have the improvement. It took us a few months, but we’ve had three or maybe four months now of really solid runs, really good speed, ever since Dover really, that we’ve been really close. We’ve had some bad luck, had some mistakes that I’ve got to clean up. We’ve made progress through all of it,” says Chris Buescher.
Chris Buescher went on to add that “I’m excited. I’m ready for the win,” in the coming weekend. Will he be able to do that with RFK racing in Watkins Glen or Daytona and secure a win?
