‘It sucks. It’s chaos out there,’ William Byron on his disappointing early exit from Coco-Cola 600

The track was lit last Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway as the ‘Crown Jewel’ of Cup Racing the Coco-Cola 600 just pure chaos on offer for the fans. The 400 lap race over 600 miles saw 18 cautions six times what the same event had last year which ate up 96 laps of the race sending it to double overtime towards the end.

The five-hour roller coaster ride of excitement, Chaos, and boredom came to an end when after surviving a crash upfront Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin found his way up the tarmac and lead the race in the final restart on his teammate Kyle Busch to secure the major trophy which has been eluding him for long.

Hendrick Motorsports who were the clear favorite coming to Charlotte saw an unfortunate day behind the wheels for most of their drivers. Championship leader Chase Elliott was the first to have a major spin and then it came the time of William Byron who was crashed out of the race on Lap 191  after Ryan Blaney spun ahead of them. Kyle Larson who came so close to winning also saw his race-ending fast with just two laps to go as Austin Dillon took him out. The 4th driver Alex Bowman on the other hand had a quiet race finishing P10  just one lace behind Larson at the end.

William Byron acknowledged that he thought they were in the catbird seat at Charlotte. He said that he was having a good run coming to turn two in lap 191 with the new set of tires and had already overtaken Kurt Busch’s No:45 23X1 car. He went on to say that he was going to cycle out when the cars when Ryan Blaney’s car wrecked the bottom coming from the top.

I thought we were in the catbird seat there. We were the first team on new tires. Had a good restart through (turn) one and got ahead of the No. 45 (Kurt Busch). We were going to cycle out really well there, and then they just started wrecking on the bottom and came up into us on the top,William Byon said.

William Byron went on to say that it sucks and it’s Chaotic out there on the track as you can’t afford to drive the car the slightest bit sideways as there exists a higher chance of crashing out. He pointed out that a single driver coming a bit sideways can wreck all around him as it either takes out others or spins themselves making just chaos.

It sucks. It’s chaos out there. You can’t drive the car the slightest bit sideways or you’re wrecked. So, if somebody gets a little bit sideways, then we all wreck. It either takes out other people or they spin to the infield. Just chaos,” William Byon added.
