The NASCAR Cup Series team alliance, or the RTA, is in talks with management firms and is pondering the possibility of holding an exhibition series. The cup outfits have struggled to turn their profit into investments in the last few years. The sponsorship money is also starting to dip, affecting the team’s financial sustainability.

With the new broadcasting deal negotiations on the horizon, the cup outfits have decided to join hands and make their voices head. The proposed exhibition series is part of the move, which can give the alternative profit source and an edge during the negotiations. The series might become the modern version of the International Race of Champions. The IRC was the all-star exhibition series that was abandoned after 2007.

Nashville hosted the 2022 NASCAR Awards, and the proposed series was one of the talking points of the media sessions. Denny Hamlin is one of the few individuals on the grid who can give drivers’ and owners’ opinions on the matter. The JGR veteran and 23X1 Racing co-owner believe the idea is feasible and will not affect the team’s NASCAR ventures.

Certainly, it could be pulled off, for sure, but it won’t affect anything that we do here. Week in, week out, it’s just more of an opportunity for us to supplement some income,” Denny Hamlin said.

Denny Hamlin called for radical changes to the NASCAR season finale

Denny Hamlin is one of the most significant drivers ever to have not won the cup championship. He came close to his maiden title multiple times but was never able to finish the promising starts. He was also unfortunate because he often raced in the finale in tracks where the Camry wasn’t the fastest.

I think Dale Jr. covered it perfectly. Should one season come down to this three-hour window? Listen, all of the champions have been worthy, nonetheless, and I’m the last person that should comment on this because I’ve never won one, and I’ll sound like some bitter a****** that never won one,” Denny Hamlin said.

So, Hamlin has an idea to fix the issue. He wants the season finale to be a three-race round, and the best driver from these three races will be crowned the champion. He claims the increase in sample size will give the drivers more equal opportunities to fight for the title.

The plan has its flaws but also holds some merits simultaneously. The entertainment value of a three-round finale is closer to a single-race one. But the idea he is trying to put forth is that the final e should be held in more neutral venues.
