Kevin Harvick is the oldest active full-time cup driver in the garage. The Stewart Hass Racing driver will turn 47 this December. With the exit of Kurt Busch from full-time cup duty, he is the only active cup driver to have arced the great Dale Earnhardt. His contract with SHR will run out at the end of 2023.

The 2022 season was an impressive comeback from the veteran after struggling to adjust to the Next Gen car at the start season. He broke his 62-race winless streak in Michigan before securing one more win to enter the playoff. His playoff campaign didn’t go as planned due to the inconsistent performance of his SHR Mustang.

Kevin Harvick attended the 2022 NASCAR Awards in Nashville and was asked about his future in the cup series and Motorsports. He acknowledged that he is clueless about his future at the moment. He assured fans that he would decide the Daytona 500. He said, “I don’t really have a clear answer on that right now. I think as we get to Daytona, I know 100% that we will have a direction because I’m not going to start the season without knowing that direction,”.

Harvick pointed out that many layers will influence his decision, which can go both ways. He said, “There are just a lot of layers to unfold and really go through and evaluate. And so, we’ll see. I think it could go either way at this particular point,”.

The 2024 cup season might witness a significant reshuffle in the driver’s line-up as several cup veterans are ready to hang up their gloves. Joe Gibbs Racing No:19 Camry driver Martin Truex Jr is one of the prominent figures whose contract will rub out in 2023. He extended his partnership one more year midway through the season. Truex Jr. failed to secure a win and playoff entry this year and was the only JGR driver not to connect the final-16 spot.

Stewart Hass Racing might have to recruit two cup drivers for 2024 as Kevin Harvick’s teammate Aric Almirola’s contract is also expiring at the end of 23. Almirola was all set to retire this year, but SHR was able to make him stay and sign a contract extension. Going winless, with an average performance this season, might indicate the career of the “Cuban missile” is coming to an end.
