“It’s important to prepare for not only the race, but the endurance of the day,” Erik Jones prepares for the long run at Charlotte Motor Speedway
Erik Jones
Erik Jones who sports the No.43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Petty GMS Motorsports competing full-time in the Cup Series will make his eighth NCS start at the Charlotte Motor Speedway with a best finish of P7 during his 2017 debut in the Coca-Cola 600 and a 2nd place finish being his best of his five Xfinity Series starts at the track.
He has had a rollercoaster ride this season with four top 10s and two top 15s with his own fair share of DNFs making it an almost disappointing season with no victory yet despite the Coca-Cola 600 marking the beginning of the second half of the 2022 season. His playoffs spot is still on the edge right now with his 17th place in the Cup Series standings.
As part of the NASCAR Memorial Day Weekend, Jones will be paying his tributes to U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Stonebraker who was killed in active duty in 1968 in the 432nd Reconnaissance Wing and whose remains have not yet been recovered to date. Erik Jones Foundation will also be working during the race supporting Melanoma Awareness Month and handing out samples and spreading much-needed awareness of skincare from the sun.
“Charlotte has been a pretty good track for me in the past, should be a good weekend all around,” says Erik Jones optimistically as he prepares for his Charlotte run
Erik Jones appears to be all prepared for what is called the longest NASCAR event in its history as he says that racing at Charlotte was always a good thing for him and with this being the lengthiest race this season, its crucial to be prepared for enduring the race and is extremely glad about how his team has been trying to perfect his car.
“Charlotte has been a pretty good track for me in the past. With this weekend being one of our longest races of the year, it’s important to prepare for not only the race, but the endurance of the day. Dave and the team have been working hard all season and bringing great cars to the track and I know this weekend will be no different.,” said Erik Jones.
He further added that he feels deeply honored to carry Lt Col Stonebraker’s name on his car and he also with his foundation working on spreading awareness of protection from the sun and he’s positive that he’ll have a good race this week.
“This is a special weekend as we honor Lt Col Kenneth Stonebraker on our FOCUSfactor Chevy and recognize all the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice. We’ve also got the Erik Jones Foundation helping educate race fans on the importance of sun protection. There’s a lot going on this weekend with many great causes. Should be a good weekend all around,” added Erik Jones.
He concluded by saying that he feels the Next-Gen car and its parts are of extremely good build and that most of the issues were with teams not being focused and he strongly feels that he won’t encounter any problems with his car for this race.
“I’m not too worried about the endurance. As for the parts and pieces wise, these cars have been pretty good. The issues we’ve had have been somewhat self-inflicted by the teams. You know, when the parts and pieces are left alone for the most part, they are happy and haven’t seen issues. I don’t think we will have any issues for the race,” concluded Erik Jones.
With Erik Jones standing 17th in the points table with no win yet, he might be cutting it too close to his vest for a playoff spot this season.
