‘I’ve also learned from this year,’ Ross Chastain on his driving mistakes that can be costly in the Cup Series
Ross Chastain
Ross Chastain a.k.a the watermelon man is having his best NASCAR cup beginning in a year as his Trackhouse Racing team debut season has earned him 2 wins in NASCAR Cup, making the only the second driver to achieve that feat in this season following the Hendrick Motorsport driver William Byron.
The racer who has been famous for his watermelon smashing celebration will be hoping to do it a third time this week on the Postponed Dover Cup Race on Monday following a rain delay. Now the No:1 car race has come forth revealing the mistakes he doesn’t want to commit or avoid to win the race.
Find out what Ross Chastain added
Ross Chastain acknowledged that when asked about his aggressive racing style said that for him it is always about being there until the end and overcoming the instances where one can deliberately put himself out in the last lap to take a race win home, though he was able to salvage wins in two of such instances, adding there were situations where he lost out on wins at the same time.
“It’s all about being there at the end. There were opportunities in both of those races to take ourselves out and it didn’t happen. Now there have been other races this year where small mistakes added up to us not winning and we had the same opportunity,” Ross Chastain said.
Ross Chastain went on to say there are multiple mistakes coming on his part during the past races and had learned from them alongside his great start to the 2022 season. He went on to say that he can’t afford to commit mistakes like his rivals, who regard as the best group of race car drivers in the world are set to exploit.
“I’m not perfect. I’m human. There are mistakes and we’ve had a great start to the season and stats look great, but there are mistakes in there that I’ve also learned from this year. Continue to evolve that is tough. I mean, this is the best group of race car drivers in the world, in my opinion. Any mistake and they exploit it,” Ross Chastain added.
