Joey Logano became the first driver to secure 2022 championship 4 race entry. He will fight 3 fellow entrants in the season finale at Phoenix for the cup title. Logano was able to out race Trackhouse Racing driver Ross Chastain, with just 3 laps left in the race to win it.

The No:22 Team Penske Mustang has been among the fastest and consistent ride on the track. It has been like that throughout this season. An earlier slow Pitstop in the race buried the veteran to the rear of Top 10 while Ross Chastain was going for a comfortable win.

But all these changed with another pit stop. A caution was put out with just 25 laps left in the race. Logano was called to the pit for a 2-tire pit-stop while the front row stayed out. He restated the race at P12 and started his march to the top.

Soon after the final restart, with 14 laps left in the race Logano was already at P4. He then proceeded to close down Ross Chastain upfront and was able to get to P2 and at the bumper of Chastain with 6 laps left in the race. Chastain then put an incredible defence which wasn’t enough to stop Logano from overtaking him with 3 laps left.

Joey Logano pointed out that he had a great car and all the Penske cars were really fast today. Joey Logano added that he doesn’t see any reason why they can’t win the championship this year. He said that he has the team to win the championship this season.

We’re racing for a championship, let’s go! Man, what a great car. Penske cars were all fast. All of them were really fast today. Oh, man, all you want to do is get to the Championship 4 when the season starts and race for a championship, and we’ve got the team to do it. I don’t see why we can’t win at this point,” Joey Logano said.

Joey Logano acknowleged that the tire change came in handy for him after falling out of the fight for the win earlier in the race. He said, Things are looking really good for us. [We had an] awesome Pennzoil Mustang…and man, just a lot of adversity fought through the last 50 laps or so. I thought we were going to win and then we kind of fell out and then had the tires and racing Ross was fun,”.

Logano confirmed that Ross Chastain did an excellent job at air blocking him in the final run and added that he is happy to get into the championship 4. He said, “He was doing a good job air-blocking me and just trying to be patient and eventually, I was like, I’ve got to go here. Just great to win out here in Vegas again, and it means so much getting to the championship,”.

Joey Logano now has a unique Championship 4 entry record. He has entered the season finale as  a contender for a fifth time. All these entries came at even years, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020 and now 2022. He reacted to the record and said he wish to enter the championship 4 every season labelling it has an Okay-average record.

I guess that’s an OK average. I wish it was every year. Maybe that’s the greed in myself. But … it feels good to be able to get into Victory Lane and race for a championship when we get to Phoenix for sure,” Joey Logano explained.
