Legacy Motor Club (LMC) announced that the full-time NASCAR Xfinity driver Josh Berry will drive the No. 42 Sunseeker Resort Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for the Cup Series finale at Daytona International Speedway. This regular-season finale is scheduled for August 26th. The Daytona night race will be Josh Berry’s first Cup start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway. However, he has driven here four times in the Xfinity Series and even led 24 laps.

Josh Berry had already driven for Jimmie Johnsons team in Michigan. He replaced Noah Gragson, who was indefinitely suspended for violating NASCAR’s conduct. Gragson liked an insensitive meme about George Floyd on Instagram, and NASCAR and his team took action. Hence, Josh Berry made his ninth Cup start at Michigan. The 32-year-old is delighted and grateful to Legacy Motor Club for allowing him to pilot the No.42 again.

Josh Berry told the RACER, “I can’t thank everyone at Legacy Motor Club enough for giving me the opportunity to drive the No. 42 again next weekend at Daytona. I haven’t driven these cars on a superspeedway yet, but I’ve got great teammates in Erik Jones and Jimmie Johnson that I can lean on throughout the week to be up to speed for Saturday night.”

As a part-time NASCAR Cup Series driver, Josh Berry made nine starts this season. Besides his Michigan race with Legacy Motor Club, Berry replaced Chase Elliott for five races as he was injured. He piloted the No.9 Hendricks Motorsports Chevrolet. Berry also substituted for Alex Bowman, who was injured and drove the No.48 Chevrolet in three races.

Legacy Motor Club Vice President of race operations Joey Cohen stated Josh Berry. He said, “We appreciate the cooperation of JR Motorsports and look forward to Josh driving the No. 42 Chevy at Daytona. Josh stepped in at Michigan and fit in great with the team. He understands the need to work together at superspeedways as a teammate and can help Legacy M.C. have a solid points day and contest for the win.”

Cohen thanked JR Motorsports for cooperating, as Josh Berry is their full-time Xfinity driver. However, the 32-year-old will move to Cup Series as a full-time driver for Stewart Haas Racing next year. Berry will replace Kevin Harvick, who is set to retire at the end of this season and drive the No.4 Ford Mustang. Meanwhile, there is no doubt that Berry’s focus will be on the NASCAR Cup event at Daytona.
