JTG Daugherty Racing’s below-average start to the 2022 season has been haunting them so far but no more as their No:47 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. secured their second Top 10 and first Top 5 finish of the season, one they desperately were in need for. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished P2 in the race below champion Chase Elliott in a nail-biting finish.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. restarted the race on lap 348 at P4, in the inside lane, and made up some ground in the next three laps until he had the chance to take P2 to himself after Ross Chastain successfully forced Martin Truex Jr. out by sacrificing his position. Though Ross Chastain, the Talladega race winner came at the No:47 hard to get the position back, he held his ground to remain at P2 until the end. But at the same time race winner, Chase Elliott was a long push for him as he wasn’t able to get close enough with the leader to make an overtaking move.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. had a below-average round of racing in 2022 with his best finish before Dover being a P10 finish at Fontana and in the rest of the races he finished outside of the Top 20 most of the time. Now with his amazing run at Dover Ricky Stenhouse Jr. acknowledged that he just came up short of a win even though they had a fast car.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. said that his team has been having a really good race car but they were constrained by multiple issues with the car in most of the races. He went on to acknowledge that though they have been good on the bigger tracks their short track programs were off a little bit until now.
“Our team has been putting together really good race cars. In a lot of the good races, we’ve had issues. You know we have been good on some of the bigger tracks. Our short-track program is definitely off a little bit, but you know it was an awesome day!” Ricky Stenhouse Jr. said.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. went on to say that the Dover run was good for the whole team and he feels that they are at the right place right now as a better race team. He went on to say they have put together a lot of fast cars so far this season but weren’t always able to show their worth so he is happier with the results. He added that his pit crew did a fabulous with the car but he just came up short at the end chasing the race to win.
“It was good to have a good run with them and really for our whole shop. We feel like we’ve been better than where we are right now as a race team. We’ve put a lot of fast race cars together, just haven’t had much to show for it. Really happy with this performance today. It was a tough battle out there. The track was tough. The cars were tough to drive. Our car was dialed in and our pit crew did a fabulous job on pit road. Just came up one spot short,” Ricky Stenhouse Jr. added.
